The portrait of the average Brazilian who loves the beach, soccer, samba and who dreams of leading the life he sees portrayed in the soap operas. He learns to survive the violence of the shantytowns and makes the streets his school. He is a deep-sea fisherman and since he is never assured of coming back alive, he blissfully celebrates each day of life.

We often ask ourselves what the purpose of life on earth is. This is the subject explored by this song. I suggest a parallel between childhood and the immensely vast future that is open to each and every one of us.

Human beings are filled with doubts, fears, desires and dreams. PRAIA is inspired by reflex ions on life that came to me while I was walking by the sea. My belief is that the love that surrounds and inhabits us is the only way to gain the strength necessary to overcome life’s obstacles.

The author of this song is a childhood friend. Ever since the very first time that I heard this song as a teenager, I have been unable to forget its lyrics and melody. She wrote the words for her father who she asks to break down the wall that separates them. Her father has since passed away but I hope that her cry of love can still be of use to fathers and daughters who are having communication troubles.

Brazilians love the party. They can easily get carried away especially when they hear familiar rhythms such as chorinho. This type of spontaneous outpouring on the part of Brazilians causes bewilderment in the strangers who are witness to it.
