Biography

Leila Marim is originally Brazilian and now a Canadian by adoption. Her interest for music began at the age of 3, influenced by the melodies emanating from her father's violin. He was a professional musician. At the age of 5, she was accepted at the academy of music were she learnt her first notes on the piano. However, she had always been particularly enchanted by the voices of popular divas and it is while singing in a choir with them that LEILA MARIM discovered her true vocation.

Wishing to perfect her natural talent, she took singing courses and since then has continued to devote her life to this passion. Being of multi-ethnic origins: Polish (her grand-father), Hungarian (her grand-mother), German (her father) and Brazilian (her mother ), and with the influence of a variety of foreign artists who performed in her native city; her mind was opened to the notion of world beat.

These influences, melded with the spirit of popular Brazilian music compose the framework of her album WORLD SOUL. It is a unique recording. In WORLD SOUL, LEILA MARIM unveils her treasures. She innovates by exploring musical paths that have been, up until now, unexploited. Her songs are marked by the influence of a Canadian collaborator and performed conjunctly with a team of musicians from her adoptive country, Canada, where she has been living for several years. This gives a particular flavour to her work and consolidates the cultural melting pot already anchored in her personality.

In spite of her linguistic versatility (she speaks three languages other than her mother tongue: French, Spanish and a bit of English), it is in her native Brazilian Portuguese that LEILA MARIM delivers her message. The exoticness of her mother tongue, coupled with the variety of world beats have innovative qualities that stimulate people's interest and curiosity. Her resume is composed of a variety of musical festivals as well as a number of presentations for Cirque Eloise.

LEILA MARIM has a voice that strikes the listener, a smile and an undulating movement that seduce, in short, a confident and pleasant stage presence. WORLD SOUL is a recording to be discovered and a show not to be missed.
